He’s very handsome, yes? He thinks so too. However, his beauty is in reverse proportion to his desire to work. The result is he spends much of his time with the ladies and very little time doing his job. He’s supposed to be watching over the multitude of Earths in the multiverse. They are deemed highly important to the Path of Light.
Honestly, Thor could care less about the Path of Light. He got shunted to this horrid ship because the big boss (Zousan’s father, Cronus) must have heard whispers that Thor was shagging his wife. He carried time-stamp proof that he was no were near the big boss’ home on the nights she was home alone. Still, when it came time to crew Zousan’s ship, his name was the third on the list. Right after Zousan and Second.
Thor resented that all his hard work to locate a time shifter who, for an astronomical price, provided him proof from a Thor in another universe that he was hard at work (while in reality, he was shagging the big boss’ wife). The other universe’s Thor was a hard working. Still, he did admire Thor’s goal to shag the big boss’s wife, so for a trillion zagets, he handed over time-stamp proof that the Thor was working on his nights of seduction.
Of course, Thor didn’t have a trillion zagets. Honestly, he rarely had more than fifty zagats. But the big guy’s wife had a ton, so she paid the other Thor’s fee and everyone one was happy. Well, not the big boss who had lost half his wealth in a nanosecond.
While he located who possessed his money easy enough, he had no proof the guy was bonking his wife. The fellow worked with other crew members and thus had several eye witnesses who claimed all he did was work.
The big guy’s response was to retrieve his trillion at once. When hardworking Thor objected, the big boss explained. “According to your own words, you don’t know why my wife gave you zagots, and so you won’t be too baffled when you don’t know why she’s now taking them back. Is that understood?”
Hardworking Thor nodded quickly and went back to work.
Big Boss went back to search among the million Thors, determined to find the one who was shagging his wife. Finding none who would admit such a feat, Big Boss tried a new angle. Determine which of the Thors had the least morals and the most interest in women.
That turned his sites on our current Thor. And while the Big Boss couldn’t prove it was him, sending him on a ship built to fail assured Thor he knew the truth and Thor was going to die for it.
Fortunately, when Zousan declared his daughter would be going with him, Big boss ‘retrofitted’ the ship. In other words, the rebuilt the ship to actually work.
Thor had enjoyed every female crew member, except one: Athena. He had no intention of touching that fire keg. Big Boss had promised to obliterate him into a trillion bits and sprinkle the bits across failed multiverses so he would die piece by piece, over a very long time.
Then Zousan threatened much the same to every male on the ship when he sent out a directive that explained their number 1 purpose was to protect the Path of Light and their number 1 forbiddance was to touch his daughter. Any touching would result in the offending body part disappearing for good.
The Gods of Probabilities
The Gods require a time shifter to ensure the Path of Light reigns during the final collapse of possibilities. To speed the process of finding an Oceanic with the specific talents needed, God DNA is induced in several batches of Oceanic eggs, resulting in a generation of brilliant tiny blue Oceanic children.
One charming boy named Drogan has the ability to manipulate quantum reality in ways that will strengthen the Path of Light. Only trouble is that his gift runs a high probability of killing him and wiping out the Path of Light for good.
While the bureaucratic Gods will try to assist, in Quantum all possibilities not only can, but do happen, so the future is never certain.
“Now, let’s return to what almost killed the Oceanic called Drogan when he visited the waters of the third dimension. Computer, provide an analysis of the oceans of Zepwik, third dimension.
The computer began a long and tedious list of chemicals in the water.
“Stop. Provide only those of lethal levels.”
To his amazement, the list remained over a hundred long.
“List in degree of lethality.”
“Uranium leakage from containers deposited at the bottom of the ocean.”
“Stop. How long have they been there?”
“Based on state of container corrosion and levels of radiation, two hundred and fifty-six Earth rotations.”
That was before their last Zepwick intervention. “Who was shepherd back then?”
“Thoran,” the computer cheerfully replied.
He closed his eyes and called out to his daughter. “Athena, we have a problem.”
Her response was instantaneous and felt like soothing feathers on his tired brain. “I know. I’m seated behind you. How can I help?”
He turned around, surprised to find his beautiful daughter seated in the crowded viewers’ seating.
“I need you to take responsibility for this universe. Thoran has disappointed me for the last time.”
“I will do my best until Pane is ready to take over full responsibility,” she replied.
“Thank you.” He had to smile at his daughter’s caveat. She truly had no wish to be a shepherd. She was an artist.
“Call forth Thoran.”
Second grimaced. “Thoran declared himself too busy to attend this All Hands.”
Zousan closed his eyes and located his center. A moment later, he opened his eyes. “Then I will act on the facts that I do know. Thoran failed to prevent the humans in the third dimension from nearly destroying themselves in a nuclear holocaust, thus requiring direct intervention of the Gods. Had he paid attention to earlier problems, I am certain the matter could have been handled better.”
His officers’ heads bobbed in unison.
“Due to the folding of time, I determined Oceana and Earth held sentients critical for the Path of Light. However, instead of a careful seeding of the Oceanics, Thoran created two hundred and thirty-nine superior sentient beings when we only required one. These newborns are so intellectually superior that their continued existence among their race is at risk.
“No one likes a smart-ass,” his communications officer muttered.
He silenced the man with a glare. “However, failing to notice the poisoning of Zepwick’s ocean, third dimension, is his most grievous error. The poison has begun to seep into the Oceanic’s fourth dimension, thus threatening the lives of both species we require for the Path of Light to prevail.”
Liza is a multiple genre author of 15 novels. A Late Victorian Series, The Adventures of Xavier & Vic, plus a spinoff, A Right to Love, is an ongoing series. A Long Road to Love is a humorous Contemporary Disaster Romance series (5 books). She has two single books. One is a humorous, bad boys contemporary novel with ghosts, called Ghost Lover, the other is Untamed & Unabashed, a spinoff from Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.
Now, she’s rolling out her Science fiction series (with romance & humor) called The Multiverses. The first four books are slotted for last half of 2015. In addition she hopes, if she hasn’t dropped from exhaustion by then, to re-release a sometimes humorous/suspense thriller called Saving Casey. It’s the story of a middle-class old woman who dies and wakes up in a teen’s body with no choice but to turn around Casey’s life, despite the many bridges the teen has burnt.
